      Observer (Boston, MA) –

This review is from: Ashtanga Yoga – Beginners Practice (DVD )

I teach Ashtanga yoga. Still looking for ideas, I bought this video to see how intent she explains and modifies some of the most difficult poses for beginners. I was both surprised and disappointed.

On the downside, his voice is really annoying. While telling practice, it sounds exactly like the character “Lilleth” Fraiser or Cheers cold, serious, inaccessible, monotonous. (In the section of the interview, when she only speaks, his voice is very good. I wish she had herself been for the practical part of the video).

Then practice. Another negative. Ashtanga is a series of poses created. Always the same pose in the same order (the idea is the practice is the same so you may notice changes in yourself). It is not the standard sun salutations, but broken down into smaller components. OK, fine, video beginner. But I would like to see the option to simply do what they would in any class ASHTANGA IN THE WORLD, which is not available. In addition, the flow. Breathing is an important part of Ashtanga. 5 breaths per pose. No hack is in and out of position or it’s over. It says on the front (but not on the box cover) that will be held each pose longer explanation. All right. But again, give us regular Ashtanga flow as another option Changes

for beginners:. I do not see much. This practice is totally discourage my beginning students who have tight hamstrings. It takes everyone can put their hands flat on the ground, but does not fully explain what to do if you can not

Included arises:. Standing postures. What the rest of the primary series Hypocrisy: It tells the audience to relax (this voice Lillith), but the sun shines so brightly in his face that his eyebrows pinched together. I can almost feel the tension across the screen!

      Positives:
This is one of the few yoga DVD that actually tries to use the capabilities of the average. When a special logo appears, you can click and get more detailed information on the installation (which would have been an ideal place for changes!)

The production values are high, the setting is beautiful and it looks professionally done of all:.
I would not recommend this DVD. Someone new to yoga (unless they were already in ballet or something else that makes them exceptionally flexible) could be very discouraged. Someone who has other styles of yoga already and it is curious to Ashtanga, it might be too watered down. The real practice is faster and more fluid. And half of the first series is absent: no sitting pose. If you have done yoga and want to learn the Ashtanga sequence and videos of David Swenson timing are much better. Production Swenson is not as professional as not beautiful setting, but the Ashtanga yoga is true. And it gives modifications for beginners! I gave it one star because the setting (Hawaii) is nice to look at, and another due to the excellent production. Yoga … not the best.

simply the best Beginner Ashtanga Yoga Videos June 22, 2003
      by
” dennisrl “ (Acworth, Georgia United States) –

I searched for some time now to start videos that Ashtanga are a slower pace so that I can focus on alignment, breathing and locks. This and the companion video “introduction to Ashtanga Yoga Poses Yoga Journal” are perfect. I was using short forms David Swenson DVD and even if it is excellent I found the pace too fast to focus sufficiently on the alignment , breathing and blocks partly because of the shape I’m in. I’m recently “Ashtanga Yoga Introductory Poses Journal” and the two days of David Swenson “Yoga Short Forms” routine 45 minutes.
The first video of the “introduction Ashtanga Yoga Poses Yoga Journal” series breaks down Surya Namaskara Surya Namaskara A & B for shorter movements to each of vinyasa asana can concentrate on. The second video starts with sun salutations, and then moves through the standing asanas.
Nicki Doane, the Yogini both practical and introduction raises the beginner is an excellent instructor and I look forward to future versions. If you do not already have these two videos and you want to enter the Ashtanga yoga I highly recommend that you get two videos. You will not be disappointed. Though the pace is slower if you’re like me, you can always find two videos very difficult

Great Beginners Workout! October 10, 2003
This review is from: Ashtanga Yoga – Beginners Practice (DVD)

I was looking for the perfect introduction to Ashtanga Yoga video training and it was exactly what I wanted! The instructor goes through each of the basic movements until the end, when you put them all together in a continuous stream. But do not be fooled by the word “beginners”. It is a hard drive and you may want to try Hatha Yoga first to become stronger. But this video is great if you want to know more about Ashtanga Yoga everything becomes stronger and more flexible (especially weapons!). The extras include a step by step guide to the basic movements, an interview with the instructor, a demonstration of advanced, and full workout. I definantly recommend this for all yoga lovers out there and for those who want to try a new workout!
