postpartum exercise, is it to soon to do some beginner yoga poses….?

Question by : postpartum exercise, is it to soon to do some beginner yoga poses….?
I am three weeks post partum and really need to start exercising as a way to help my own body image issues. I have a history of eating disorders and am feeling quite down on myself image wise. I do not want to do anything extra strenuous and risk causing harm to myself, but I do need to start some type of exercise regimen to get myself geared up for the heavy stuff after I have my doctors ok.

I have a beginners yoga DVD and am planning on starting a nightly walking routine with my dog. I have three weeks till my checkup. After that its back to the gym for Pilates, aerobics and weight training.

Do you have any suggestions for light exercise routines that will help me get back into the groove of working out?

I would start with walking first, then see your dr and get the ok, alright?

  1. If you feel up to it – go for it. Just listen to your body. If your bleeding starts back or gets heavier – STOP.

  2. Most doctors say 6 weeks, and there is a reason for that. Your uturus and muscles are not healed. If they aren’t healed you can do serious damage. Your bladder can drop, your uturus can be damaged, where you can’t hold another fetus. I know it is hard, but talk to your OBGYN, explain the situation to her and ask her if there is a mild form of exercise that you can do. If she says no, then breast feed a TON. That is the quickest way to get rid of the baby bloat after the baby. It shrinks the uturus right away.
