Does anyone know if YOGA is good for the lower back?

Question by Pregnant lady: Does anyone know if YOGA is good for the lower back?
I can’t do Pilates exercises since they hurt my back. Those are much too strenuous. I don’t have any problem with doing aerobics. I was wondering if Yoga would help? I have had back surgery due to a herniated disk and I was considering buying a beginner yoga video but don’t know if I should bother. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

yoga is also good for posture and most poses are less intense on the lower back than pilates . . . but given that you’ve had surgery, i would consult your doctor

  1. Yoga has been a god-send for my lower back. Definitely give it a try. But I would strongly suggest starting with classes so that your instructor can help you get properly aligned in positions. Also, the instructor will be able to suggest modifications of poses that might put too much strain on your back at this point. But over time, yoga will definitely strengthen your back. Have fun!
