Question by honest questions: Can Yoga help prepare for the police academy?
I plan on attending a police academy at Kent State University in June 2012. Will partaking in Yoga classes, beginning now, help prepare for the physical aspects of the training I’ll receive? I heard Yoga, like Vinyasa, will build strength and muscular endurance by up to 31% in only 8 weeks.

It certainly can’t hurt. Having flexibility is important and yoga is excellent for that. Endurance is a relative term, it is best to have a well rounded routine that includes varied workouts. Some running, biking, swimming, hiking, yoga, weight training, you get the idea. Just doing yoga for instance won’t make you a better runner. A really good all around workout is Mixed Martial Arts. It develops your endurance and gives you some skills you may have to use as an officer.

    No. You need to be running a mile or more every day… practicing sit ups, chin ups, etc.

    Yoga is like drinking wine….. it’s fun but it doesn’t get you anywhere….
